How to Find Your Ring Size

Updated March 2026 • 4 min read

Getting your ring size right is essential when buying online. An ill-fitting ring can be uncomfortable or, worse, fall off. The good news is that measuring your ring size at home is straightforward with a few simple methods.

Method 1: The String Method

  1. Cut a thin strip of paper or a piece of string about 6 inches long
  2. Wrap it around the base of your finger (where the ring will sit)
  3. Mark where the paper or string overlaps
  4. Measure the length in millimeters using a ruler
  5. Compare to the size chart below
Important: Measure at the end of the day when your fingers are at their largest. Avoid measuring when your hands are cold, as fingers shrink in cold temperatures.

Method 2: Use an Existing Ring

If you already own a ring that fits well, measure its inner diameter in millimeters and compare it to the chart below. Place the ring on a ruler and measure from one inside edge to the other.
